How to setup a Squarespace email newsletter form + deliver your freebie

Ever wondered how to set up a Squarespace email newsletter form on your website? Well, then you’ve come to the right place!

When it comes to starting a business, there's a lot you have on your mind. When you don't feel tech-savvy or too confident in your Internet skills, it can be overwhelming to start and continue marketing your business so that you can make money.

Now, I don't want to add to the overwhelm you're feeling, I'm here to help! One of the smartest things you can have on the homepage of your website is an opt-in to your email list through a freebie. This helps you position yourself as an expert in front of potential clients and then continuously market your business through email marketing.

The best thing about using Squarespace for your website is that you can also use Squarespace for email marketing! This makes it super simple to add a form to your website to capture people's name and email address. In this blog post, I'm going to walk you through the simple steps it takes to add a Squarespace email newsletter form to your website to get started marketing your business and creating the best home page out there! But to start us off, let's talk about the importance of email marketing and how you can get started.

Why email marketing is important

Email marketing is one of my favourite ways to stay in touch with people who are interested in investing in my brand design and Squarespace web design services, along with those who just enjoy keeping up with Kurly Creative. The best way to grow your email list is by offering a free lead magnet that offers informational and educational content that helps solve one of the main pain points of your target audience. Here are three benefits of offering a freebie:

  • Builds trust - your subscribers will come to see that you're not all about the sale, you genuinely want to help people! This helps build a positive relationship instead of making people feel uncomfortable that you're constantly trying to sell something to them.

  • Builds credibility - when you share educational content, people will come to see you as an expert within your industry. They'll see your content as valuable, and when they need a service you offer, you'll be one of the first names that come to mind!

  • Offers free value - the online space is full of people trying to make more money, and it seems like we never hear the end of it! While that is important, it's also important to share free value and not monetize everything. People will see you as a friend and a guide who wants to help instead of a money-hungry biz owner, and no one wants that reputation!

My fave email service providers

Now that you know the benefits of email marketing, I can tell you just can't wait to get started! The next thing you'll need to do is find an email service provider - a platform that you can use to collect email addresses and then build newsletters to send to your audience. Let's talk about three of the best...

1 | Flodesk

this is my absolute favourite platform! It's super easy to use and allows you to build stunning emails without all the complications and code it takes to do so on other platforms. Flodesk is the new kid on the block, but increasing in popularity amongst online businesses for the personal and attention-grabbing emails you can create. As a designer, it's stolen my heart! You can click here to get one month free and then 50% off for life! I take special note of the user interface of the platforms I use (old habits die hard!) and Flodesk has completely nailed it! You can read all about my little obsession with Flodesk in this blog post!

2 | Squarespace Campaigns

if you're using Squarespace for your website, then it's super easy to just add Squarespace Campaigns to your subscription. This is great to integrate your email campaigns with your website so that you can add sign-up forms, track analytics, and create a consistent brand presence. They also have great templates that are easily customizable to your business needs and look very similar to customizing your Squarespace website, so you don't have to totally learn a new platform! You can easily repurpose content from your shop and blogs to your emails with Squarespace!

3 | Mailchimp

ah, an oldie but a goodie! Mailchimp has been around for a while, but it's still a great tool! Mailchimp is great when you're just getting started and need a free tool to jumpstart email marketing. There are lots of integrations and you can even purchase beautiful templates to make your emails look even more amazing!

Setting up a Squarespace email newsletter form

You've chosen an email marketing provider to deliver your freebie and chat with potential customers, but you need to get a form set up on your website so that you can start actually getting sign-ups for your list Here's a step-by-step guide of how to add a newsletter form to your Squarespace website and see the leads roll in!

  • First things first, you need to sign up and create an account with your email service provider! So whether you choose Flodesk (my fave), Squarespace Campaigns (a close second), or Mailchimp (the all-around good boy), you can integrate it with your website!

  • Within your account, fill in the necessary details and add any names + email addresses that you've already collected. This will help you personalize your emails later on and sound like a real human!

  • Create a freebie delivery email that sends people the opt-in they signed up for and gets them excited to hear from you again. Don't forget to upload your PDF to the links or buttons you include in your email!

  • Now it's time for the grand finale! Add your Squarespace email newsletter form to your website with the help of these three help articles, which walk you through the specific steps that go with the email marketing platform of your choice:

    • Flodesk and Squarespace Article - You'll have to embed a code block into your website and paste the code that Flodesk generates from the opt-in that you create.

    • Squarespace Campaigns Tutorial - The easiest of them all! Just simply add the Squarespace Campaigns block and simply choose Squarespace Campaigns in the "storage" option.

    • Mailchimp and Squarespace Article - Squarespace actually has the option to link your Mailchimp account to your website since it's so popular! Just choose Mailchimp in the newsletter block settings and log into your account. You'll be good to go!

  • Now that you have your Squarespace email newsletter form setup on your website, there's one last thing you need to do! Go to your live website and fill out your own freebie opt-in, then check to make sure that you receive the email with your freebie attached. Don't forget to read over your email as well for silly typos!

Bonus Email Marketing Tips

What comes next may be the trickiest part of it all - keeping up with your email list! One thing you can do that will make mailing your list super easy instead of constantly having to think of new topics to share with your subscribers is to create a welcome sequence of a few automated emails that send at certain times to people on your email list. This workflow will nurture your email list and help them to learn more about you and how you can help their business (both for free and paid resources or services).

You can include a nice mix of both educational and promotional content in these emails. Take well-performing blog posts or Instagram captions and repurpose them into email newsletters. Don't forget to introduce yourself and your brand! People want to know the face behind the emails - so don't be afraid to show a little personality! You can also promote your service or shop if you'd rather use your email list for passive income. Add in time gaps between each email of 5-7 days so that people don't get annoyed with you constantly showing up in their inbox!

You can browse the Kurly Creative Squarespace and Canva template shop to pick up a website template that helps you stand out and includes newsletter opt-in forms, along with tutorials to update and integrate other email providers with your list! Click below to check it out!
