How to Market Your Business on Autopilot

Us business owners are pretty dang busy people. I’m still getting over just how much work is involved when it comes to running your own business online. I reckon I spend around 30% of my time designing, and the rest of the time doing admin, marketing, finances, customer service, planning… and the list goes on! I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing there were more hours in the day. Don’t you just wish there was a way to market your business on autopilot?!

Well, I’m here today to tell you that this is entirely possible for you! I’m all about working smarter and not harder over here, so I’m going to give you my top techniques for marketing your business whilst you sleep. This isn’t a quick fix for your business that will happen overnight, but will take some planning to run like clockwork all day, every day. So even when you’re on holiday sipping your fave cocktail, the applications to work with you can be rolling in! Talk about a dream!

In this blog post, we are going to talk about seven systems to set up or switches to make in your marketing plan that are designed to help you attract more people, convert them from leads into clients, and then make more money! Now, let’s get started.

1 | Add a link in bio page to your Insta profile

If you have a website, create an unlinked page (one that doesn’t show up in your menu) to showcase all the places people can go once they click the link in your bio. This one link can act like a LinkTree or Milkshake account, but better since it’s on your own account! If you don’t have a website, then these are two good options for you as well. Different links that you can add to your links page include…

  • Special offers

  • Freebies

  • Services

  • Contact page

  • Enquiry forms

  • Latest blog posts

  • Other social links

When you create this page on your own website, you can monitor which links are being clicked the most and access more information about your viewers so that you can optimise your links page even more so that the leads just keep coming! Next, let’s talk about another aspect of the ‘Gram that can help you market your business without lifting a finger.

2 | Optimise your Insta bio

Instead of just your personal or business name in the very first section of your bio, add in keywords that tell people what you do. This makes your account more searchable and able to rank higher since people can type in your job title and have your account pop up! An example of this is my account, where you’ll see that in addition to my name, I also have Branding & Web Design (not to mention a cute unicorn, because, why not?!).

Next is the actual “bio” part of your profile. In this section, the main two questions you should be answering are, “what do you do?” and “who do you serve?”. There are a lot of small businesses out there on Instagram, so in addition to these two things, make sure your bio makes you stand out from others in your industry. For example, I use rainbows and tell readers three things that my services will do for them so they can get a taste of my personality as well!

The last line in your bio should be a strong CTA directing people to the link right below the text. In my bio, you can see that I’m inviting readers to download a free guide that solves one of the main pain points of those in my target audience. A few different CTAs you can use are…

  • Download my freebie

  • Read my latest blog post

  • Apply to work with me

  • Book a call

Now that your Instagram bio has people begging to work with you, keep building the momentum with the links they’ll view after clicking the link in your bio. One of these links is what we are going to talk about next!

Pro tip - Creating your own ‘brand bio’ statement will make this step loads easier. If you’re currently wondering: what the heck is a brand bio statement? Then check out point 1 of my blog post that explains all of this.

3 | Create an opt-in freebie and short 3-5 email sequence

Try and offer a quick-fix solution to one of the main problems your dream client has - show them you can help them solve it! This sequence doesn’t have to be lengthy or detailed. Usually short and sweet is better! Keep your open rates up with appealing subject lines and practical content for your ideal client.

This sequence should warm up your email list and make them a big group of warm leads that you can upsell into a paid offer! You can even add in more free gifts and downloads in later emails to have people appreciate you even more. These emails should communicate the value you provide and convince potential clients that working with you is a worthwhile investment!

My favourite email platform is Flodesk, where you can design beautiful emails and effortless workflows so this whole process is automated, meaning you only have to write each email once, schedule it, and never have to look back! Click here to get 50% forever (that’s an affiliate link! I only ever recommend and promote things that I love and use myself - just sharing the love here!)

4 | Create a pricing guide or pricing page on your website

Funnel more people into your email list and lead tracker by requiring people to opt-in to your email list so they can learn all about your services. Now, you have two options!

  1. Create a separate and hidden page on your website that goes into detail about your various packages, what’s included and how they can book your services.

  2. Add them to an automated email sequence that sends them a PDF with all the information they need to fall in love with their services. Follow up and build a personal relationship with these leads over the next few days by sending them a few more emails asking if they have any questions and would like to book a call to talk about working together.

This is a great method for high-end businesses that provide luxurious services for their clients. You can see who is interested in working with you, but also have the comfort of knowing they’ve already counted the cost before you both hop on a call. 5 | Set up a Pinterest business account + sign up to Tailwind

Like in your Insta bio, make sure you optimise your Pinterest profile by adding keywords so that your account and profession is searchable. This helps more people find you! You should also add a strong CTA and website link so that people can learn more about you somewhere else on the internet!

Pinterest is like a search engine, only much more visual. So instead of viewing it as another social media platform, think about how to optimise your content through Pin titles, descriptions, and boards so that more people can find your content. Remember, more eyes on your content means more potential leads in your audience ;).

I would highly recommend signing up to Tailwind too. It’s a seriously awesome time-saving tool where you can schedule out weeks or even months worth of content at a time! Click here (yes, that another affiliate link!) to snag 1 month of Tailwind fo’ free!

6 | Setup a Google My Business Account

This completely free tool from Google helps you rank as the legitimate business you are on Google. Your listing appears on the right side of the screen when you search a business name. Here is my listing as an example!

There are a few things that you can do in addition to just setting up your listing. Add photos and all the information that Google asks for so that your potential clients can get the most out of your business. Upload photos, add business hours, link your website and social media, and don’t forget to ask customers to leave a review so you can build trust with others as well!

This tool helps you reach more potential customers because it provides insights on their behaviour and engagement with your listing. There is a whole dashboard where you can manage and update your listing behind the scenes.

One of their features is ads and special offers! If you have special sales throughout the year or want to advertise your business to get more people to your website, the “posts” feature can entice even more people to visit your website and buy from you!

7 | Have a kickass website that sells on autopilot for you 24/7!

For all these previous steps to run smoothly, the key is to have a website that is well designed and set up for success. This means that you need #allthethings, including copywriting, enticing images, cohesive branding, valuable content, desirable offerings, trust, and lots of personality! It can be daunting to try to do all of this yourself, so it’s a good thing there’s an alternative to DIYing your lead capture funnel.
